Auf Wiedersehen Fjordian

As a thank you for my time at Fjord, I’ve put together a collection of my special “moves” that have been the secret to my success.

This movie requires Flash Player 9

A shout out to ze frank for the inspiration.

Productivity Killer

The TED conference in California every year brings together tons of innovators, thinkers, scientists, artists. (Think IdeaCity, but older and better.) Anyway, it has recently come to my attention that they’re posting videos of speakers who have been there over the years. It’s like a goldmine of recent trends in thinking.

Check out this talk from Malcom Gladwell just to wet your appetite. I’ve been watching these in the background on my computer all day.

I’m a FanGirl who Loves Anger

So, like, I posted on the MuchMusic.com blog.

Yay!

It’s Totally a Conspiracy

Those “Above the Influence” commercials totally make me want to get high, and I never get high. But those commercials are so trippy and whacked it makes me think “Whoa, that looks like it would feel cool.”

It’s the kind of thing that makes you think that “Prison Song” by System of a Down is true. They’re totally trying to get us to take more drugs. Completely. They certainly don’t seem to be able to get people to stop doing drugs.

The Truth About Marc

Marc has officially become a music video star.  And his first role is as “Bender (The Criminal)” from The Breakfast Club in a music video by Mugshot (no, Lindsey, not that Mugshot).

You may not know this about Marc, but this was probably the perfect role for him.  Deep down inside, Marc really wants to be the bad boy, which is why when he drinks he becomes a giant jerk.  It’s not that he’s a giant jerk, he’s actually quite nice, but he’s free to “become” the giant jerk when drinking, much the way most girls go a little slutty once the drink is flowing.

Although on set people thought his performance was ‘hammy’ I think in a spoof video it might still be funny.

Go Marc!

TV on the Web

This site is awesome. http://www.utvpc.com/

It basically just aggregates the free video available elsewhere on the net. I can’t imagine that it’ll last very long, but it’s awesome that it’s there.

So Funny

This video must be watched in the privacy of your home (i.e. not at work) and with the volume up.

I don’t know what this kid’s problem is, but his pain, is my side splitting laughter.

Damn You All

Stupid PhoneSo I was watching the new Pussycat Dolls video today and I saw how they started the video by featuring a bunch of  cellphones (made by samsung, as the obviously displayed logo told me) playing the song in a subway station, which they all danced to.  Then I surfed and saw the Fergie video for Fergalicious and noticed for the first time that at the end of the video they start grooving to music coming out of the same phone, for no reason! They even have all these really obvious “product shots.”  You can almost here the editor counting: “1 mississippi, 2 mississippi, 3 mississippi.”  And it’s not even “contextual” they’re just holding up the phone for the camera.

Universal (the label both these acts are on) doesn’t broadcast these videos, Much and other places do and we have to pay them to show them. So not only is Uni making money on us showing them, they’re making money on just having the video at all. Devious labels, they’re the work of the devil, no question.

The Killers

Watching The Killers I&I yesterday it was very obvious to me that if Brandon Flowers weren’t so goddammed pretty, no one would listen to them. The Killers Video Brandon Flowers is Pretty I’m sure the same is true of Fall Out Boy, if Pete Wentz weren’t such a cutie, we’d never have this Dance Dance Video.

Ok, so everyone knows that sex sells right?  And this isn’t new as applied to music.  But what I was wondering is, does there have to be someone cute to enjoy the music at all?  Music is so sexual.  People strongly identify with their chosen musical genre (for those who identify with a musical genre).   And music is a lot about dancing and movement, which is all about showing off your body and your sexual prowess.  I don’t have a complete argument formulated here, but I’m thinking of writing it down.

Anyway, Brandon Flowers, please don’t stop being pretty, cuz I like your music.
