I’m Entertaining

It was my birthday on friday and I threw a party.  I really like to entertain, and I’ve done it a lot so I thought I knew what I was doing, but apparently not.  See, at the end of the night I had plenty of booze left.  Like, a lot.  But I was completely cleaned out of food.  It didn’t help that it was a 9 hour party or that one of the edibles was forgotten in the fridge, but still.

Next time, here’s what I’m going to do to make sure that doesn’t happen.

- Don’t put all the food out right away.  Although this is way more convenient when it comes to fridge space, it’s better in the long run to not have your guests gorge themselves then sit around feeling fat for the rest of the night

- In addition to random noshables, have one new thing every hour.

- Push the booze.  If the guests are drunk, they won’t notice the no food.

- Have some less classy but still edible chips and such on reserve just in case.

- Have a big food event at some point.  At my birthday, I felt like there needed to be a cake, like people expected that there would be one.  So next time, it’s ice cream cake all the way.

Wonderday Adventures

Maxie’s Quotes of the Day:

“My palms are sweating!” – said as entering the park, with stupidly happy smile on her face.

“These rides are built for comfort!” – said while snuggling into the plush seat of the Great Canadian Mine Buster, which if you recall, is the most shaky and jarring ride in the park.

A comic of our adventure….

Cultural Vocabulary

HarajukuMarc came to visit me at work today and he hung out with me by my desk and we chatted for a little. Apparently we were up to our cutesy ways again, because my roommate felt the need to comment on how “perfect” for each other we were – basically based on how we totally got each other’s cultural references. He asked if we ever didn’t get the reference and I responded that we usually do, except if it’s for something before my time, like say between 1986 and 1989.

Later I started to think about it and I realized that between 1984 and 1989 I lived in 6 different places and went to 5 different schools. I had to make new friends constantly during that time. I frequently found myself an outsider and had to quickly pick up the references that people around me used to relate to each other.

It seems obvious to me now that even though I have vivid memories of myself during those times, I wasn’t retaining any of the pop culture because what was “important” to know was always changing.

I’d like to blame the fact that I’m now basically a culture sponge on this, but I’m pretty sure I was like that before the moving around.
